The design studio within the Swiss pharmaceutical company "J. R. Geigy AG" was a hub that achieved great accomplishments in the history of Swiss graphic design during the 1950s and 60s. At the time, the company's open-minded corporate spirit combined product and corporate advertising in an exemplary manner. As a result, they experimented with expressions based on modernist forms, without relying on specific fixed formats. Under the long-term leadership of Max Schmid, they employed Roland Aeschlimann, Karl Gerstner, and Toshihiro Katayama (a Japanese designer), among others, and also actively utilized freelance designers. This book is the first comprehensive compilation of Geigy designs, including posters, products, envelopes, paper bags, and books, and is also an important document on Swiss design from the perspective of international design history.
