Japanese Moriage Satsuma-style porcelain vase with a raised enamel design. The Moriage technique uses raised slip decoration to create a three-dimensional effect, often described as looking like cake frosting. Moriage ware was produced in Japan from the late 1800s to the mid-1900s, reflecting Western interest in Orientalism. This vase is hand-painted with elaborate polychrome and gold decorations, depicting a scene with figures, geishas or scholars, in a garden or landscape. It features an ivory-colored, crackled glaze of Satsuma ware, with the raised enamel adding texture and dimension. Unmarked Moriage pieces are common. Measuring @ 6"H x 3" W.
